Boring Investing: Why I Put My Money in One Index Fund

I tried to find smarter ways to make money with markets, including AI-assisted trading. My conclusion: it is not reliable. What is reliable is owning a broad slice of the market for a long time.

What I invest in

I invest in an accumulating S&P 500 index fund domiciled in Ireland. Accumulating means dividends are reinvested automatically. The Irish domicile matters for many non-US investors because it can reduce the tax withheld on dividends compared with a US-listed fund.

A plan, not a feeling

I follow a multi-year plan: a fixed monthly contribution, plus extra lump sums when I can. I do not check prices daily, and I do not sell when the news is bad.

Why boring wins

  • Low costs mean more of the return stays with you.
  • Broad funds remove the need to pick winners.
  • Time in the market matters more than timing it.

This is my personal approach, not financial advice. Do your own research or speak with a licensed adviser before investing.
